Dr. Banerjee is Founding director of Institute for Rock Magnetism (IRM) and Distinguished Professor emeritus of University of Minnesota. He holds the degreesof Ph.D and Sc.D from University of Cambridge, and a fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Hehas wonmany international prizes such astheLouis NeelMedal, theGilbert Award, and theJohn Adam Fleming Medal.His ex-students are nowrenownedgeomagnetists in many countries and continents.
